Congratulations to Joel Howley, Brisbane’s very own new World Champion!
In September 2017 I wrote about Joel Howley, a Bridgeman Downs local, who has been working hard to achieve his dreams and last weekend they all came true.
He has just returned with the Australian team from the Malaysian Waterski World Open Championships.
Joel is a professional slalom waterskier and skis all around the world but is based in Bridgeman Downs and trains only 25 minutes away.
Joel competed against 25 countries and has brought home gold for Australia Well done Joel. 🥇
Joel has been water skiing socially since 8 years old and began competing at 18.
A true Northsider Joel went to St Dympnas primary school at Aspley and then completed his secondary years at Padua.
During these years he spent many weekends with his parents and brothers at Lake Somerset. Living on the Northside allows him to be close to his training and our beautiful Brisbane weather makes pulling on the wetsuit easy for most of the year.
Joel spends summer here in Brisbane studying and training. As soon as the weather turns cool he departs for America to compete on the Pro circuit in USA during our winter.
He is very proud of his sponsors, Connelly Water ski, who allow him to do what he loves which is slalom waterskiing.
